This is an interesting heritage and it is one that, in the present day, some astrologers carry on in their own practice by predicting such things as when somebody will get married or when they might get a great job. This kind of work can be bound up with some kind of psychic or clairvoyant skills which the practitioner may have.

My own philosophy on this issue is that, purely using astrology, we cannot see exact happenings in the future but we can see probabilities. This is why an astrological prediction can turn out to be wrong; the astrologer sees the high likelihood of a particular outcome, declares that will be the outcome, but it is not what actually occurs. For instance, if Uranus transits into your House of Marriage there is an excellent chance that there will be significant changes in your primary relationships but it would be an unethical statement to tell you, 'You will get a divorce'. A more helpful path would be to suggest that a re-framing of your one-on-one relationships might be required such that freedom and individuality is not compromised. This could certainly mean divorce but re-evaluation can also lead to other interesting outcomes that work.

In my astrological practice, I can tell you about the fated part of your life. I can tell you that during a certain period, you will face certain questions and possibilities; that particular types of issues are going to crop up. But, what I cannot tell you, is how you will react and respond in these times. This is the part of life where you have complete free will, even though sometimes it may not seem that way.

Each person has a path in the school of life and the beauty of astrology is being able to predict what parts of the path are being explicitly stimulated at a particular time. Once this is revealed then the reading can involve some discussion and, possibly, suggestions can be made as to how to navigate this time given the strengths and challenges that show up in every chart.

It can be quite powerful to start thinking about what life wants from you in any particular period of your life.
